Why am I being asked if I am a politically exposed person?

Under various banking laws and regulations, we’re obligated to do a very basic identity check of anyone applying for an Osper account. Very rarely, we need to get in touch to double check if you are a politically exposed individual.

A politically exposed person is an individual who is or is linked to a senior politician, high court judge or magistrate, or high ranking military official both in the UK and beyond.

If you share a name with an individual who matches this, we need to get in touch with you to confirm if you are connected with them in any way, we usually do this via email or telephone and normally is just a simple case of recording a yes or no.
